4.10 Mechanization in Horticulture Department.
As a part of mechanization to enhance the speed, accuracy and timely delivery
of better services, Horticultural Department procured different types of latest
tools and equipments like bobcat machine, battery operated brush cutter /
hedge trimmer, pole pruner, ride on lawn mower, earth auger machine, wood
chipper / shredder machine, battery operated e-Carts, leaf collector, blower,
cultivators, levelers, hand pilots, etc. of different capacity for operation and
maintenance purposes during the year 2018-19. Introduction of such
machineries not only reduced the manual labour but also improved the quality
of outcome of the work by bringing in standardization in the operations and
maintenance. It is proposed to continue to procure latest machinery in the year
2019-20 also at a cost of about Rs. 1 crore.
4.11 Scientific composting of Green Waste through de-centralized
Compost Pits
To manage the green waste scientifically, 28 decentralized Compost Pits were
commissioned during the year 2018-19 for rapid composting through enzyme-
based-culture, in addition to the existing 90 compost pits. As a result, the
department has its own units of compost pits which also reduced the
transportation and carbon footprint in disposal of green waste. Five more
compost pits will be commissioned by March, 2019. I propose to add 20 more
de-centralized Compost Pits during the year 2019-20.
4.12 Introduction of new species in NDMC area
Tulips plants were imported from the Holland during the year 2017-18, which
bloomed well in major parks of NDMC, and attracted the visitors. During the
year 2018-19, 10 species of Bulbous Plants have been imported from the
Holland, which are being developed in all major parks and gardens in NDMC
area. Such new experiments will be continued during the year 2019-20 which
will not only allow the public to have real time experience of such climate
sensitive species found in temperate areas, but also bringing in spectacular
colour scheme by planting different types of such winter seasonal annuals.
