6. PHYSICAL INFRASTRUCTURE

6.1 POWER DISTRIBUTION

6.1.1 NDMC is the deemed licensee for Distribution of Electricity in its
area comprising of Government Offices, establishment, markets, residential &
commercial Complexes, Institutions, Hospitals, Diplomatic missions, stadiums
etc. It receives power from the grid and provides “24x7” reliable quality
power supply to all its consumers through a network of sub transmission &
distribution systems.

6.1.2 Availability of a strong sub-transmission and distribution network
with state-of-the-art “Advance Metering Infrastructure” (AMI), IT and
SCADA is the need for efficient management of supply distribution system.
Due to consistent increase in electricity demand, owing to changes in life style
and consumption pattern, up-gradation and creation of adequate sub-
transmission distribution infrastructure network is needed. Anticipating these
future requirements, NDMC has undertaken strengthening of its sub-
transmission and distribution network under “Integrated Power Development
Scheme” (IPDS) of Government of India.

6.1.3 Smart Grid

6.1.3.1 Under the “Integrated Power Development Scheme” (IPDS) of
Government of India, Ministry of Power has approved NDMC’s DPR for
strengthening of sub-transmission and distribution system and sanctioned a
grant of Rs.119 crore for the IPDS project work comprising of strengthening
of 11KV network, including replacement of old distribution transformers,
circuit breakers LT & HT Panels, underground Cables, earthing etc. for
improving efficiency and reduction of “Aggregate Technical & Commercial
Losses” (AT&C).

6.1.3.2 M/s WAPCOS Ltd. in consortium with M/s EDF, a French company,
has been appointed as the Project Design and Management Agency (PDMA)
for the IPDS work. The work of strengthening has been awarded to M/s
Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (L&T Ltd.) at a cost of Rs.185 Cr. in March, 2018 and
is under execution.
