        dedicated volunteers to carry out awareness  activities  in each Residential/
        Commercial area etc. Further, 2000 Home Composting Units are being
        distributed by NDMC to its  employees by 31.01.2019 to encourage home
        composting

        5.4.4.5 Bin Free City
        It isproposed to upgrade the system of solid waste management of its area and
        to make NDMC area a bin free one.  Therefore proposing5 static compactors
        at locations where the generation of garbage is more than 3 MT per day and
        underground bins will be installed as mentioned earlier.


        5.4.4.6  Litter Picker Machines and Wheelbarrows
        Two vehicle mounted litter picker machines and 970 wheelbarrows have been
        procured in 2018-19 to improve collection efficiency of litter bins. NDMC has
        installed 3473 litter bins towards making Swachh Bharat. I propose to
        continue installation of additional 1860 litter twin bins in NDMC during 2019-
        20, to improve cleanliness in public areas.

        5.4.4.7 Sanitary Napkin Vending Machine
       5.4.4.7.1  Twenty Nine Sanitary Napkin vending machines have been installed
       in 28 Secondary and Senior  secondary Schools, wherein bio-compostable
       sanitary pads are provided to the girls students of NDMC free of cost. Further,
       Sanitary Napkin Vending Machines along with incinerator have been installed
       at 4 locations in working women hostels of NDMC. Further, Sanitary Napkin
       vending machines have  been provided in 86 Public  Toilet  units  and
       Community Toilet Units in NDMC area.

       5.4.4.7.2  There  are  approximately 6000 beneficiary girl students  in 28
        NDMC/Navyug Schools, which has been engaged in this citizen led initiative
        that has been institutionalized by NDMC.It is  first  time in India, Sanitary
        Napkin Vending Machines have been installed in government schools for free
        distribution of compostable sanitary pads to the girl students. The project is
        novel as these sanitary pads are made from pulp, natural material with no side
        effects promoting menstrual hygiene. The napkins ensure prevention of rashes,
        infections,  illnesses and the spread of diseases such  as cervical  cancer and
        other gynaecological complications. These sanitary napkins are compostable
        and can be disposed in environment friendly manner in compost pits after use.
