citizens in NDMC area due to continuous efforts made by NDMC in
this regard.
5.4.4.2 Monitoring of MSW Management
Bio Metric Attendance System has been installed at Roll Call Centre. All
supervisory sanitation staff has been provided with smart phones, who upload
inspection reports of their area on daily basis which is monitored centrally.
Any Citizen in the area can upload photos with insanitary conditions on
NDMC 311 App/ Swachhta App. The same complaint is assigned to
concerned ASI / SI / CMO / HOD and feedback is provided to complainant at
each step. Complaint is either closed on satisfaction of complainant or by the
complainant himself. These complaints are also monitored at senior level
officers on regular basis. Citizens have been providing positive feedback to
the administration. NDMC is also having a 24 X 7 Call Center and a 4-digit
toll free no. 1533 to register and follow up on the complaints through its
Command and Control Centre.
5.4.4.3 Mechanical Road Sweepers to curb air pollution
5.4.4.3.1 A major concern of air pollution in Delhi is the road dust that is
generated by suspended particles during cleaning the road. Traditionally,
sweeping of roads is done manually, which causes the dust to remain floating
in the air for some time, thus increasing suspended particulate matter in the
air. Road dust is major contributor to both PM 10 and PM 2.5 emission in
Delhi air. To control this, NDMC has enhanced the fleet of mechanical road
sweepers to 9 by procuring 4 such machines in 2018-19. These mechanical
road sweepers are deployed on all avenue roads of approx. 135 kms.
5.4.4.3.2 With an aim to cover lanes, by-lanes and commercial / market areas,
it is proposed to procure 7 small mechanical road sweepers, 7 small electrical
road sweepers and 7 litter picker machines for a period of 5 years on OPEX
basis during the year 2019-20thesemachines will go a long way in curbing air
pollution and 100% roads will be cleaned mechanically.
5.4.4.4 Home Composting
Home composting has been started in more than 532 houses in NDMC Area,
and the number of households is being increased everyday by motivating
citizens to adopt this method for reducing burden of wet waste for disposal at
Compost Plant, Okhla, Delhi. Esree foundation NGO has been involved to
further motivate the citizens in this regard, which has deployed about 25
