5.2.4 Centre of Excellence in Community Hygiene
5.2.4.1 Keeping in view the historical significance of flagging off the
nd
campaign for Swachh Bharat Mission on 2 October 2014 by Hon’ble Prime
Minister from the area of New Delhi Municipal Council and the need for
consolidation of major steps which have been taken in the area of Solid and
Liquid Waste Management, with path-breaking policy interventions to
encourage source segregation, decentralized waste management, Fecal Sludge
& Seepage Management as well as national initiatives such as the ODF
Protocol for third party certification of ODF status, SwachhSurvekshan
(annual cleanliness survey), Star Rating of Garbage Free Cities, etc. and also
huge investment in IEC and Behaviour Change Communication to encourage
citizens to adopt safe sanitation practices, NDMC is takingunique initiative for
the Skill Development in the field of sanitation and community wellness by
setting up a Centre of Excellence in Community Hygiene at Tughlak Crescent,
New Delhi.
5.2.4.2 It is proposed to run courses namely Recyclable Waste Collection &
Segregation, Manager Waste Management (Electric Biomass Depot/Compost
yard/Dry waste centre), Wastewater Treatment Plant – Technician, Waste
water Treatment Plant – Helper, Septic Tank Technician, SafaiKaramchari,
Waste Pickers, Fecal Sludge Treatment Plant O&M Technician, Desludging
Operator, Biomass Depot Operator and E-Waste Collection for the first phase
under Skill India Mission of the Government of India. The Centre of
Excellence will function as a go-to center for private and public sector
organizations, government entities, entrepreneurs as well as individuals.
5.2.5 Upgradation of Women Technical Institute (WTI)
5.2.5.1 NDMC is running a Women Technical Institute at Netaji Nagar,
which is imparting training to women in the courses of Stenographer and
Secretarial Assistant (Hindi & English), Computer Operator and Programming
Assistant, Beauty and Hair Designing, Sewing Technology, Dress Designing,
Surface Ornamentation, Cooking, Catering and Home Management, Music
(Vocal and Light) and Dance.
5.2.5.2 With a view to empower women, it is proposed that the Institute will
be upgraded with best facilities to run the existing courses and also to start
